Antony & Cleopatra was the second of two shows being done as part of the Long Beach Shakespeare Company’s summer outdoor Shakespeare Festival (preceded earlier in the summer by Taming of the Shrew). I did have a bit more time, than with the first show, to conceptualize this one, however, I had only two days to make the transition from the stage of Taming of the Shrew to the palace of ancient Greek/Egypt that I had decided to go with for this show. Construction additions included a forward extension for the upper level and pillars both cylindrical for the lower level and square for the upper. The curtaining was changed to a double layered effect utilizing a shear front piece with gold lining backed with solid white curtains. And finally the whole stage received a new paint treatment to top off the stone palace look.
